This hardy annual is a mixture of orange and yellow
sunflowers. A semi dwarf growing 70cm or more high.
Sunflowers are gross feeders and will not thrive in poor soil,
therefore they require a rich soil in an open sunny position and
an abundance of moisture. Before sowing work the soil and
incorporate a complete fertiliser at the rate of 30g per square
meter. Sow the seed directly into the soil and thin the young
seedlings.
The flowers last approx. 2-3 weeks, after the petals drop, cut off
the heads and let the seed heads dry. They can then be hung
in bird cages, or in trees to attract birds such as parrots. Also
excellent as a cut flower.
